Through in-kind grants, USAID/PPMG supported the Women’s University Volleyball Club STUDENT UNTZ from Tuzla, Alliance of Paraplegics and Persons with Poliomyelitis of FBiH, Swimming Club SPID from Sarajevo, and the Fire Department “Vogošća”.

Bridge of Umbrellas for Promoting Rights of Families of Persons with Developmental Disabilities

29748102 10155588495638651 1325173935 oOn 27 March, 2018, one of Sarajevo's bridges celebrated diversity. The Eiffel bridge in Skenderija, covered in colorful umbrellas, was opened by the BiH track and field athlete Amel Tuka, reporter Mimo Šahinpašić and Director of the Association of Families of Children and Persons with Disabilities “Dajte nam šansu” Ines Kavalec, marking the beginning of „Family Rules“ – a campaign on social responsibility.

The bridge, a symbol of diversity and the importance of protecting the rights of children and persons with disabilities and providing support to their families was opened on the seventh birthday of the Association of Families of Children and Persons with Disabilities “Dajte nam šansu”.

Who Provides Care for People with Developmental Disabilities in Sarajevo Canton and FBiH?

sumeroDeinstitutionalization is necessary and obligatory, both in Sarajevo Canton and in entire BiH. This was one of the conclusions from the workshop “Empowering the process of deinstitutionalization of persons with disabilities in Sarajevo Canton”, held by SUMERO on March 20 and 21, 2018 in Konjic. 

The workshop included representatives of cantonal Ministries for Social Protection and social protection institutions, who are key actors in improving and developing the process of deinstitutionalizing persons with disabilities, presenting example of good practice showing that persons with intellectual disabilities and other types of disabilities can be functional outside of closed institutions, if they are provided with adequate support.
